i tried snails at a place samantha recommended- they were good, but hard work to eat!

went to a flamenco performance, couldn't take pictures

picture i took on a walk at night

plaza españa

went to a second flamenco performance. flamenco comes from southern spain, so i wanted to see it while i was there

el real alcazar day tickets were already sold out, so i got a ticket to a night tour that featured a local theatre troupe's performance. it was in spanish, and i largely had no idea what was being said.

seeing el real alcazar at night was very cool, and from what i hear, way more calm than a regular day visit.

do you think this cat cleared security?

definitely recommend the real alcazar night tour

Valencia

does eminent domain not exist in spain? an interesting sidewalk

Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències

La Ciutat. Barcelona and (to a lesser extent) Valencia speak a language called Catalan, which sounds like a mix of Spanish and French. I don't understand Catalan at all, but everyone also speaks Castellano (what we call Spanish) and a lot also speak English and/or French

Barcelona

Barcelona has a lot of hills and a lot of stairs. Here's the 167 that led up to the hostel I was staying at

Usually you'll see next to a lot of stairs either a lift or an outside escalator. this one was under construction at the time

a view of the city

Arc de Triomf

tried prawns for the first time. they tasted worse and were more work to eat than the snails.

google maps walking instructions took me on a weird path. it had a nice view

then i had to climb down this steep slope after it didn't get me to the park it said it would get me to

La Sagrada Familia, a church that's been being built since 1882

La Sagrada Familia, designed by architect Antoni Gaudí, who died in 1926.

they hope to complete the church in 2026, for the 100 year anniversary of Gaudí's death

When Gaudí died, after dedicating 1915-1926 entirely to the project, the cathedral was less than 1/4th complete
